The Blood Cells
White Blood Cells
White blood cells are also specialized cells. They have a lifespan of about 3 days and are part of the immune system. These big blood cells literally engulf intruders (bacteria, viruses and etc.). A cool thing about white blood cells is that doctors can tell if you are or are susceptible to being sick based on your white blood cell count. An elevated white blood cell count could mean an infection, inflammation, etc. while a low white blood cell count could mean that the person is very exposed and susceptible to anything ranging from a common cold to leukemia ,hyperthyroidism ,etc. |
Yellow Blood Cells
Yellow blood cells (a.k.a. blood platelets) are probably the least commonly known of the blood cells. In fact, some people reading this might have never even heard of it before. When there is a Bleed, yellow blood cells, clotting factors, fibrin strands, and any other ready to use blood cells (white or red) form together to block a tear, bleed, etc. to prevent blood loss. |

Red Blood Cells
Red blood cells are the "flagship blood cells" so to speak. They are the most commonly known type of blood cells. Red Blood cells last about 120 days. They have a protein called haemoglobin in them which carries oxygen around the body and gives them their bright red colour. Red blood cells also carry carbon dioxide to the lungs for disposal. |
